Interactive online learning modules for forest management practices

Southeast Prescribed Fire Learning Modules

Prescribed fire is a land management tool being increasingly utilized by landowners and land managers across the Southeast. Given this increase, proper training and experience will be important to ensure that prescribed fire is applied appropriately to the landscape. To assist in providing a basic understanding of the principles of prescribed fire and fire effects, NC State University Forestry Extension and NC State University Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA) have collaborated to develop a suite of interactive online modules geared towards Extension agents, those landowners and land managers who who are new to prescribed burning, and state certified burners in need of a refresher. This introductory course is not intended to take the place of state certification courses, workshops, or field experience, but rather to serve as a precursor to or in conjunction with one of these activities. Modules include topics such as: introduction to prescribed burning, burn preparation, fire safety, smoke management, laws and liability, conducting a burn, and post-burn evaluation.

Note: users will  have to either login to an existing account or create a free account with eXtension to access the course.
